Previous Seasons
In 2010-11 the change in New Orleans is inevitable and your NBA Hornets are no different. A new head coach, (former Spur) Monty Williams will now roam the sidelines and another former Spur, VP of Basketball Operations Dell Demps is now the new GM and the outlook is bright for the team.
In the draft, the Hornets selected PF Craig Brackins (21st overall draft selection) and SF Quincy Pondexter (26th overall draft selection). In free agency, the team picked up G Willie Green, C Jason Smith, F Trevor Ariza, G Marco Belinelli and G Mustafa Shakur.
The Hornets are planning an up-temp style of offense to try and utilize Chris Paul’s abilities and David West’s ability to get to the rim out of the half court set. "My job is to blend both what David brings to the table and the style of play we want to do," Williams said.
In 2009-10 after firing head coach Byron Scott in the middle of the season, GM Jeff Bower took over the Head coaching spot to finish out the season which netted him a fifth place finish in the division. Immediately after the season, Bowers was gone. Who up next?
In 2008-09 after Byron Scott led his team to a 49-33 record and a trip into the 2009 playoffs, Denver Nuggets fans were left disappointed as the Denver Nuggets knocked them out of the playoffs in 5 games. It didn’t help that the team’s top 5 players were all playing injured.
In 2007-08 after reaching the 50+ winning mark, the New Orleans Hornets entered the playoffs as the #2 Seed in the West and matched up against the 7th seeded Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Playoffs. After dismissing the Mavs in 5 games, the Hornets then met the Defending NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs who eliminated the Hornets in 7 games.
New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets tickets have created quite the stir around the Ford Center in sparkling downtown Oklahoma City. Led by rookie phenom Chris Paul and rising star J.R. Smith, head coach Byron Scott’s team has taken America’s heartland by storm. After the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina, the Hornets are quickly turning into the feel-good story of the 2005-06 NBA season. And you can be a part of the fun by buying New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets tickets today.
The Hornets came to the Crescent City more than two decades after the city lost the Jazz. After spending time in Charlotte as the Charlotte Hornets, the franchise moved further south, spurred on by a lagging fan base and the lure of the New Orleans Arena. Initially, the Hornets played very good basketball. With point guard Baron Davis leading the team, New Orleans won 16 of their first 23 games and looked like a playoff contender with potential. Davis, plagued by a back injury, saw his performance suffer in the midst of the season though and the Hornets looked in danger of losing their momentum. Management brought in Kenny Anderson from the Supersonics to help out and the Hornets ended the season at 47-35. The playoffs ended for the Hornets with a six game series loss to the Philadelphia 76ers and in response Hornets management fired head coach Paul Silas, bringing in ex-Chicago Bulls and University of New Orleans head coach Tim Floyd.
Floyd lasted only one year. Hampered by injuries once again, the Hornets managed to make the playoffs at 41-41, but were ousted by the Miami Heat in the first round. Floyd was out the door and the Hornets brought in Byron Scott to lead the team. Scott brought along his experience as a player, having won three NBA Championships with the Los Angeles Lakers, and experience as a coach, where he made two trips to the NBA Finals with the New Jersey Nets. |
